Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long beach on 24 August 1972. In her early years, DuVernay's Aunt Denise encouraged her passion for artistic expression and creative thinking. Aunt Denise worked the night shift as a nurse so she could follow her passion for art literature and theater throughout the day. She showed DuVernay to the film of 1961 West Side Story and DuVernay discovered a love for it. DuVernay was instructed by her mom that the arts can serve to promote activism.
